If her East-German upbringing has taught Julia anything, it's how to be a maker. She loves creating things, no matter the process, and bringing them to live through stop motion animation. With a soft spot for the absurd and surrealist, she's interested in stories around the malleability of memories and the divide between what we do and don't say.

“I've been sitting with the idea for "Before long" for a couple of years before I finally managed to take a break from my day job to make it into something. The short is inspired by my grandmother's life story, which has been a source of rumination for me ever since she shared it. "Before long" takes a look at family dynamics and if you're very quiet you hear me screaming "why would you do something like this to someone you're supposed to love??" through it all. It also tries to shed a light on the circumstances leading people to return to the broken systems they once risked their life to leave, which I feel isn't discussed with much empathy - if it comes up at all.”
