Synopsis:
On Jareon’s 12th birthday in 2005, a serious thunderstorm threatens his yearly Fourth of July-firework-celebrations. Jaeron holds out hope, but doubt creeps in, and he begins to question whether his family still cares about him now that he's getting older– intensifying what will become his most defining birthday yet.
Jovan Brooks is an African-American filmmaker born in Upper Marlboro, Maryland and is currently based in Pasadena, California. His work explores catharsis and embraces vivid analog-inspired digital aesthetics by combining the use of obscure cameras and image projections. His films have screened at festivals such as the Utah Film Festival, Maryland Film Festival, DaVinci Film Festival, and Milwaukee Film Festival. He has won a Capital Emmy student production award for his thesis short romance film Summer Eclipse.
